Getting ready to leave Birmingham. I can't begin to imagine how God will use the six of us in Peru. Leaving family, friends, and my church is tough, but I know by learning on God I can become a spiritually better and stronger person. I hope and pray to return changed for the better and strengthened spiritually. It's been a winding and unexpected road to get to this place in my life, but it's by God's grace alone. I don't know what the Lord has planned for my life, but I believe with all my heart this experience will open my eyes, as Jesus asked us to go into all nations preaching the gospel and touching others lives in a deep and spiritual way.

My first trip by plane was definitely an experience, from the feeling of taking off, to being so high above the city. The feeling was indiscribible, and for a couple of hours I forgot the world around me, mostly because I was partially freaked out. We landed in Miami at 2:35 and got right on the flight for Peru. We were held up for 45 minutes due to "technical difficulties," but finally left. I met a girl named Joy who was in the seat beside me. She was doing missions in Peru also, so we talked a while about what the Lord was doing in our lives. It was good to be able to talk so easily with a girl without the fear of saying something stupid.

We landed in Peru at 9:35. I wished Joy well and caught up with the group. The best part of flying was the whole feeling of it. The worst part had to be descending and my ears popping along with a massive headache; altogether though it wasn't so bad on the way to Peru from Miami.

Walking through the Peru International Airport at first was kind've odd. A lot of the people kept staring so I figured they knew we weren't used to the area, or at least I wasn't. Eventually we all got through customs and were on our way to meet Santiago and his wife Elise at the entrance.

After they picked us up they took us to have chicken for dinner which was amazing, and the service was superb. After that we drove throughout Lima until we found the suburb Jose Galvez, where we're staying in a dorm for missionaries. Lima is a beautiful and indiscribible city. Lights cascade from every corner but there are also areas of great poverty. When I passed by those streets it made me feel blessed for all I have, and yet it really humbled me, and gave me an inner desire to get to know the people and reach out to them.

This day's been exciting and eye opening, and I can't wait to see what God has in store for me through this experience
