The Sidewalk

The Sidewalk

A Poem by Matt Stewart
"

Something I wrote after taking some time to chill out.

"

These streets at night I walk are a comfort to the pain;

A place of shelter from the storm, the wind, and the rain.

I spoke my mind, but they wouldn't listen,

I tried to explain myself, though they were full of doubt.

I'm looking for an answer beyond this illusion;

I'm looking for peace, and a better way out.

So many times before I've trusted, and many have torn down my walls.

Some to encourage and love me; some just to watch me fall.

I've had enough of hiding; people need to know

I have a voice that needs to be heard; a path that I should go.

I'm not afraid of tomorrow, yet sometimes I live in regret today.

I wonder sometimes about the path I take, praying people won't lead me astray.

The cool night air brings a calmness to my soul, as the wind blows in my face.

And all my thoughts seem to unwind in a more serene time and place.

I think about all the days before; all the things I've said and done;

All the thoughts I used to regret not drift away one by one.

The street lights seem to guide me with such an eerie shade,

As I find myself in tranquility within the end of the day.

People ask, but I don't tell; they wouldn't understand.

I just grow tired of the same routine, although it's part of a bigger plan.

I'm just a man; I have worries and doubts, but one day I'll be set free.

Until that day comes, I'll look to the future, yearning for the days when I become all I'm meant to be.

Time changes hearts and minds, and I was altered alon the way.

I was within the pit of despair, and He lovingly showed me the way.

In the end there's no need for masks; we need to be true from day to day;

Love and encourage those who need it before we slip away.

I see the light in the distance, and I know I can't stop now.

Lord give me the strength to pursue your will in my life, starting RIGHT NOW.
