Sparrow (In Memory of Tom O'ConnorA Poem by Matt StewartThis is a song I wrote after the passing of a close friend of the family.
It's been a long and narrow road for me to reach this place; all those I love that I fear losing; all these moments I can't erase. I don't want to leave you, but I've been called to a better place, where my spirit can be free and there's no more pain to face. I give you all my love although I'm moving on to a different place. The time has come for me to say goodbye but I know I'll see you again someday.
Like a sparrow in the wind I'll fly away from this place. I'm searching for belonging and for God's warm embrace. Tomorrow is never promised so hold on to your dreams. You and I will meet again one day within a great place of peace. It's so hard to let go when I've loved you for so long. Every mile another memory; another word set in stone. I wish all the best for you within the days ahead. Know that I'll be watching over you until we meet again. It won't be long until we reunite my friend; until the sun shines forevermore within a place that knows no sin. Like a sparrow in the wind I'll fly away from this place. I'm searching for belonging and for God's warm embrace. Tomorrow is never promised so hold on to your dreams. You and I will meet again one day within a great place of peace. Now is the time to say my last goodbye; to speak the words I never said, as I step into the light. There's so many things I wish I had done along the way, but now is not the time to worry; I'm coming home to stay. There's no mountain or sea that could be compared to this place. I'm free to live in a place within our reach, where one day I'll see your face. Like a sparrow in the wind I'll fly away from this place. I'm searching for belonging and for God's warm embrace. Tomorrow is never promised so hold on to your dreams. You and I will meet again one day within a great place of peace. © 2010 Matt Stewart |
