Reflection

Reflection

A Poem by Matt Stewart

Just today I found myself beyond my own reflection;
What I saw before me was what hid beyond my own perception.
A broken soul that was saved despite all the lies.
A heart that was broken that always tends to put on a bright disguise.
I’ve walked the road less followed, and was tempted into sin,
But looking back on the choices I’ve made, I would do it all again.
The Lord found me in my darkest hour
Buried in all my sin;
He raised me up from the loneliness to which I always hid.
Some label me a victim;
Some label me a liar;
But when it comes to the truth, my standards are set higher.
No one can tell where this road might lead,
But I trust in God with all my heart.
If one wants to find wisdom
Praising the Lord for all he is is a good place to start.
I’m no perfect soul, and would never claim to be
But with God watching over me I feel my heart can be free.
Free to discover the world around me;
Free to love my sisters and brothers;
Free to chase a dream that may not be seen by others;
Free to be who I am without having to question why;
Freedom to repent for the sins for which my savior died.
If I could say one thing to all of those who may be lost
Don’t give up on your dreams, no matter what the cost.
A man’s life is not based on profit,
Or the title he holds.
The key has always been to trust your heart,
Something worth more than silver and gold.
