BlackbirdA Poem by Matt StewartThe blackbird perches upon my window sill;
Within eyes so serene is a fear all too real. Feathers black as night within the waking of the day; Yearning to fly, though left astray. His brothers fly onward to a destination unknown, Yet here he sits, looking so alone. I can't help but see my reflection in the black coal that is his eyes, Hiding my true self from the world outside. I long to be righteous, but also fear the cost, Yet what is there left to lose that hasn't been lost? He stares into my eyes and seems to awkwardly understand We both have dreamers hearts searching for the promised land. We seem to both have a destiny, yet different paths to choose; The choice to spread our wings and fly or to ponder in fear of what we may lose. On this day I choose life; not to let the world pass me by. I pray his choice would be the same, and he would find the strength to fly. It's a sad thing to see; a beautiful creature with such a caged soul, And yet it reminds me that sometime I'll have to let go. Let go of the fear, let go of the pain; Learn to trust again, and not live within this shame. Live within hope instead of disdain. Ascending, I pray to find resistance From a world that seems so distant. Someday I will find peace with myself and return again. I have no fear of the unknown, I just pray my heart will be led home. One day I hope to see my friend fly again, Until that day, it's only dreams for my feathered friend. © 2010 Matt StewartReviews
