Stay

Stay

A Poem by Jenn

i want airports

to be my fondest smell

because i want to be gone

more than i am home

and i want to be without

more than i am with

i see a map

with a world i have never visited

i see a mirror

with a girl who is truly lost

stay,

all anyone wants anyone to do

is stay, because

people want to hold on to

something more than just a memory

humans want something physical

but i can’t give that to them

i want to be always looking

out the window in the clouds

because i want to be seated

in economy class,

more than i am seated

in my mothers arms

i see a plane

with people looking for a new destinatio

i see me

finally figuring out, who the hell

i am supposed to be

leave,

that’s all i want to do

because if i stay, then i’ll be doing it for them

and i am more than just physical

i am mental,

and i will attack your memory

you will remember me

as the smell of airports,

and my mother will miss holding me

in her arms on my birthday

but she will remember the years before

because she knows,

that though i am in the window seat

in the clouds,

i am more than just something physical

and being mental

means that you don’t have to stay
