Goodbye CassidyA Poem by Jordan AdkinsLove can be both sweet and tragic.
I gaze up at a face as soft and sweet as mine
Rays of sunlight through cascading hair Begin to fade out with a promised goodbye Hate the sin but love the sinner Maybe it was just my time A love like this, a crime to the world But a love they cannot confine He gave me three weeks For a death that was impending How can I tell the woman I love That there will be no happy ending? As I lay me down to sleep I want nothing more than to cease her weep And I sink in to the arms like mine I take into my mind the scent of her skin The feel of full, pink lips And the same song she always sings "If I never knew you If I never felt this love I would have no inkling of How precious life can be." On the last leg of the race The doctor said my heart was giving up I told him that I didn't mind That I had finally had enough My darling lie beside me My will and the reason I breathe And as I take my one last breath I manage a, "Goodbye Cassidy." © 2016 Jordan Adkins |
