Faking Life

I look into your eyes
Searching past the guarded expression
Trying to find
The girl you used to be
But she seems gone
Lost within the person
That took place of my best friend

I see you around
Dressed in your bright "preppy" clothes
Being a girl I don't really know
The girl I knew didn't care what people thought
And thrived to be herself
But the girl I see now
Is turning into one of the people she never was

Tryin' to blend in
To conform
Say you are different
But you are just turning out to be just like everyone else
The "preppy" clothes
The 'happy' smile
And the facade you put on

You are...were...one of the few people that were trully different
You were my best friend at heart
And my partner in crime xD
But that was then
This is now
Did I see this coming?
Kind've

Maybe you look happy
But I see that deep inside...
Some part of you wants to break down
I see sorrow in your eyes
Am I right?
I don't know
But I write you this poem to tell you what I think

I sit here
At this rugged computer desk
Writing you this twisted poem
To tell you
That my friend seems to be distant
Hiddin deep down
And wishing to be released
But I guess that your wish to be normal came true.

From the heart, and written with truth. I think many of us can relate to having a friend change on you and seem like they're trying to be someone else -- someone you KNOW they are not. For whatever reason, it does happen... and it's sad to lose a friend just because they feel the need to please someone else's idea of whom they are.
