Spirit Of Home

Spirit Of Home

A Poem by Honestly, Abe

We are the spirit of home
Fireplace and cotton rugs
Candles and the blue glare
Of the television
It hasn’t been turned off for days now

We smoke, eat, play, and are in love
With life, loving adventure, sex
Honesty, lies, working and fighting
Making up and hiding
Coming out and holding doors open
For people who don’t say thank you.

Then one day you notice
The gray hairs
Impeding on your puppy’s chin
Eyes, nose, coat

So you sit down with a brush
And give back to your constants
