I Can't Say GoodbyeA Poem by Jade MayhewI just can’t say goodbye to you I’ve tried for years on end To say goodbye is to admit I’ve lost my closest friend
I catch your laughter on the wind And have to smile back I feel you hold my hand whenever Strength is what I lack
Your arms still wrap around me and Your lips still grace my cheek When I feel like I need comfort Or when I just feel weak
Your words of pure encouragement Still flow into my ears The light that shined within your soul Still helps ward off my fears
And sometimes when I lay in bed I still wait for your call Or I hope to feel you catch me When I begin to fall
I still expect the bell to ring And see you at my door I yearn for the familiar sound Of your footsteps on the floor
And oftentimes, I just forget That you’re no longer there And sometimes life is just too cruel And never just too fair
And then I close my eyes and just Like magic, there you are The simple act reminding me That you’re not all that far.
And when I turn around I see The sparkle in your eye And so you’ll always live because I
