Never Goodbye

Never Goodbye

A Poem by Jade Mayhew
"

My in-laws took in an exchange student this year. Today, she took a plane back to Germany, leaving us with a heavy burden of adjusting without her. A lot of tears have been shed, and we'll miss her.

"
You've packed your bags and said farewells;
You've braced yourself for days.
Now here it comes, the last goodbyes...
I'm not ready to part ways.

The house will be so empty, and
Your room will be so bare.
Your desk, your bed won't look the same
Without you sitting there.

You found yourself a family
Who loves you as you are,
Who'll always be right here for you,
Although right here might be quite far.

The cameras won't do justice,
And the phone won't be the same.
The day won't get much easier,
No matter what we claim.

You touched our lives so deeply;
You pierced our hearts and souls.
You took a piece of each of us
And left a Kim-sized hole.

Remember us in days to come,
And take my words to heart:
Although you aren't within arm's reach,
We really aren't apart.

So smile when we see you and
Don't be afraid to cry.
I know in time we'll meet again,
So this really isn't goodbye.
