Kevin

Kevin

A Chapter by Jade Mayhew

I looped my arm through Kevin's as we walked down my road. He didn't speak, waiting for me to voice my thoughts. But I planned on staying silent until we reached our spot. The familiar speed limit sign approached around a curve and the path we wanted was right behind it. Ten minutes down the path sat a huge rock, well over ten feet in the air at it's highest point. Kevin and I were easily able to climb up and lay back on its flat top. After laying there for a few minutes, he turned his head to me. "So talk."
Breathing out deeply, I brought my hands up to my head. "I need your advice. About a guy."
"A guy?" Kevin asked, raising his eyebrows.
"Three guys, actually." Kevin continued to stare without a response. "I don't know what I'm going to do."
"Then tell me about it. I'll stay open minded and I'll listen and help. It's what I'm here for. Who are they? Anyone I know?"
I turned away from him. "Jordan, obviously. Shawn and, um, Max."
This time, Kevin stared, but out of surprise more than anything. "Max? As in Max Corrow? Since when?"
I couldn't help myself; I laughed out loud when the memory entered my head. "Since that night."
Kevin looked confused for a minute before laughing as well. "Oh, you mean the night you knocked on my door for 10 minutes at midnight, slammed the door into my face, almost broke my nose, ran through my house just so you could pee?"
    "That would be the night."
He turned away briefly, and then looked back at me. "Okay, so tell me everything. And I'll tell you what I think when you're done."
I sighed. "Well, we'll start with Shawn..."
