I'm going off to college soon... that's kinda what this is meant to portray. It's a song, not a poem, and it's mean to sound kind of like a country song.

Hey mom, you know we've had our fights.
We've made each other laugh and cry.
Hey mom, don't we still have those nights
We don't see eye-to-eye?
Hey mom, my hero, my shinin' star,
I'm leaving now to make my start.
Will you still love me where you are?
I promise you, you're baby girl ain't far.

I'm leavin' soon to start my life,
To take my chance to shine,
To meet my future gleamin' bright
And put my name in lights.
But I'll remember endless nights
And days that sang my song.
