Last Night

Last Night

A Poem by Jade Mayhew

I thought I heard your voice last night,
I thought I saw your face.
I thought I heard your laugher,
And I thought I felt your grace.

I felt the pain com creeping up
From deep within my past.
The pain I thought had disappeared,
That I'd hoped wouldn't last.

But then I realized through the darkness,
It was just a memory
That plays and plays inside my mind
And destroys a part of me.

I let the tears fall down my face,
And with them came the pain.
I cried so much that over you,
I'll never cry again.

And though I might get sad at times,
It won't consume my life.
I won't always feel as if
My heart's being stabbed with knives.

So as I went to bed last night,
My final thought was you.
And I woke up ready this morning,
To start my life anew.

I think the best part is the ending verse, because it strays away from the idea that you'll be haunted forever by
this. I like how you use night and day as a contrast of emotions.
