Afraid To Do The Dare

Afraid To Do The Dare

A Poem by Jade Mayhew

I never got to say goodbye,
Or see you one last time.
You never said it'd be okay,
Or told me you'd be fine.

You promised that you'd always be
Beside me if I cried.
My tears have fallen many night.
You broke your promise and you lied.

You never came to help me,
You hurt me once again.
This isn't who I thought you were;
I thought you were my friend.

I know that I can't change the world,
But I can always help a friend.
All you need to do is ask;
My hope will never end.

This isn't who I thought you were,
A boy who doesn't care,
Who's too afraid to help himself,
Afraid to do the dare.
