![]() ColorsA Poem by Jade MayhewMy soul was lost and wandering,
The darkness closing in. My hope for life abandoned me And said, “You'll never win.” The world around was drenched in gray And voices dimmed to mute. So long, I'd cried to deafened ears And suffered cold abuse. And then like a ray of sunshine, You brought color to my heart. I no longer felt invisible, The world, a work of art. You listened when my tears would fall, Where others once ignored. You made me smile, made me laugh And never acted bored. The sun held beauty once again Once you were by my side. You never saw the bad in me, Though god knows how I tried. The trees were green, the sky was blue, Your eyes as brown as doe's. The colors that had been denied Helped my senses grow. I realized I could smell the grass And finally view the sea. I saw the people all around Smiling back at me. You brought me strength where I had none And hope to light my world, And when you held my hand in yours, They stopped seeing just a girl. So when they told me you were gone, My mind fell off its track. No colors left, no gray to see. My everything went black. For days or weeks, or maybe months, My world was black and white. How could colors still exist without The sunshine in my life? And then I found your photograph And your eyes that always gleamed. I let the tears flow down my cheeks, Two heartfelt, broken streams. I cried until the black turned gray And white turned back to blue I cried until I saw the red, The brown, the purple too. As each day passed without you near, The colors came and went Until I just could not recall Where my gray world had went And people still were smiling And I was like the others But still your memory lives because You helped me see the colors. ♥ © 2014 Jade Mayhew |
