Candlelight, Horoscopes and my Mother

Candlelight, Horoscopes and my Mother

A Poem by Jack Joseph
"

A few at once...

"

1.

Why is there always something else?
why is something constantly held back?
I want clarity and they want fodder,
thinking of tomorrows battles.
I want quiet resolution,
a discussion over candlelight
but its always a scene.
When did I enter an age
where arguing is the only way to resolve?
Is public humiliation a cherry
on top of some sweet dessert?
I was tired of it then
and I'm never going back.

2.

I'm surrounded by half read self-help books
I'm not qualified for such major deconstruction.
Not procrastinating, overly depending on others
wondering why all my relationships
feel like I'm dating my mother.
Thats quite a workload.

3.

I'm obsessed with Horoscopes
I get them in the mail.
They were addressed for the last resident
but I don't think she'll mind
sharing the sign.
They let me know what planet
is out to get me, what sign will fall for me
and what activity to avoid.
They are vague, this is agitating.
I see what I was meant to see
nothing more; but then again
they were meant for her.
I'll take what I need.

I like the way you have set this up. The three parts meld well together and I feel as though I was listening to you in a real conversation in some way...oh and guess what? I am drinking wine. I have candles on the table but I am not going to cause a scene...not partial to them myself. Seriously though this was a great read. I enjoyed it immensly...keep them coming!
