Just another night

Just another night

A Poem by Jack...

Just another night

This is just another night

Lonely street lights weep

Shadows moving, no eye contact

Brick facades push away steam

Walking softly on dampened sidewalks

Head hung low wondering

why this feeling continues, this crawl

lost within the halls of my heart

Broken lines with no exit

Foreclosed affection in headlines

written on the palm of my hand,

smeared in tear drops wiped away for now

Yesterday was like a dream,

you were here, smiling, laughing

Sharing a day at the park on a painted bench,

watching silent paddle boats sleep

A March sun glistened on still waters

and birds sung sweetly overhead

Then the wind changed course...creating opposing ripples

as our silhouettes slowly faded to one

Watching my feet form ruts,

swinging nervously back to front, over and over

Kicking dust up in my stomach

where butterflies turn to stone

Waiting for you, a setting sun,

flamed drizzling on my shoulders

Slumped reflections on a westward sky

as I still search to the east

Yes, this is just another night,

followed by just another day

An agonizing repetitive pattern

My every night, my every day…without you

Powerful piece jack. Love the opening stanzas and the brittle lonlyness running through the ending. Excellent work.

Thanks so much my friend.
The story was gripping in itself and the lines were breathtaking..

"Yesterday was like a dream,

This is just so soft and pretty a picture Jack. And the artwork is heavenly for the subject as it took me to another world!

Thank you so very much my sweet friend. I can always count on you to brighten my day.
You did very well at capturing the essence of loneliness in this poem Jack. The words reflect the forlorn perspective of your situation and the chosen picture which to me depicts the feeling perfectly and appears to be part of the inspiration for this. The many key words and metaphors are impressive as well. A great piece of poetry in my opinion.

No problem Jack.
Remembering this month of March with those bittersweet memoirs of your lost love...that's heartbreaking.
But there is always beauty in the sadness. This is beautiful...though so moving.

Thank you so very much Dhaye.
I really liked this actually, something about the atmosphere that it creates almost feels kafkaesque, as if the whole world has warped ever so slightly. And then that foreboding sadness, which has become all too common-place. Definitely a great write!
