Out of sand

Out of sand

A Poem by Jack...

Out of sand

Staring at the hourglass

Counting each tiny grain of life

Moments that passed before

Resting in a pyramid pile, the lower half…youth

White and pure, unwanted beach’s breath

Identical but different…used

Age remains atop the vessel

Seeping in centered illusions

Falling through a narrow passage

Seconds, minutes, hours…it descends

Plain and boring, nothing much here to see

Routine trickles of tired drippings

Then…one granule an unusual shade…effervescent

A single speck glistens…morning glory blue

Illumined before my eyes…finding the middle

Spinning in the gritted whirlpool and I realize…it is you

This is my time of love…I see it clearly

As it moves lower…leaving me…spiraling towards memories

Frantically I shake the container, it changes not

Losing you…watching…in panic’d wave smashing the glass

Tiny slivers lace the pieces, sharp, razor like

Sifting through hysterically, searching for you…my fingers

Sliced and oozing…crimson floods the mound

Everything is tinted sorrow…it all looks the same

You are gone, swept up in life’s saturation

And still I bleed…tears mingling

Drenched in loss of a broken heart

Lying in a dampened dune of garnet puddles

Becoming one with the earth below…

I have lost you…I am out of sand….

This is wonderfully done! The imagery of the hourglass so resonated with me and then it plays out like a thriller with a surprise twist, this unplanned horror...such poignant, identifiable imagery, so well illustrating this losing of time, of self....our inability to go back, put the pieces back in their place and how it slices and scars us, leaves us unhinged, lifeless as it slips through our fingers. So well done!

Haha, you might have, I'm not sure. Thank you!
Sometimes the sands of time runs out faster for those we love and we are left shaking the glass for a glimpse of what we lost.

The love of his life has died...and he must now live in a world where she is no longer.
Downtake, indeed, my friend.

Thank you Angel. I am always thrilled when you stop by.
Word Painter Jack, you have done it again. Phenomenal. This is a beautiful and tragic write. This is my absolute favorite part:

Thank you so very much for those kind words Madalyn. I am more than thrilled you enjoyed this one.
Wonderful analogy, Jack. To see time pass quickly is so much harder when it is someone we love.

Wow Jack this caught my eye! I have a thing about writing about time and I use the hour glass a lot. I must say was wrote very profound in a sad cry of loss, But we are scared to the end some no1 ever sees takes time for. You did great my friend:)

Thanks so very much Tia. I always appreciate your kindness to me.
How sad watching love spirit away and to have to watch, nothing you can do. I imagine how helpless it must be peering from the other side of the glass watching as it escapes. I hope I'm never in that situation. I had a girlfriend that was in a similar situation. She cried on my shoulder for six months. I was glad to be there for her. This is lovely Jack but so heart wrenching.
