Mother Nature's Promise

Mother Nature's Promise

A Poem by Jack...

Mother Nature’s Promise

Wildflower yearnings, un-blooming and restless

longing for nothing but sunshine and meadows,

spring mist’d spillings on clover leaf lawns,

weeded temptations dot soon Sunday drives

as tiger lilies line the shoulders calling

in nectar’d phrase and orange sherbet wishes

Her Earth sleeps beneath cold canvas mornings,

foggy breath seeps from shiver’d mouths,

footprints like smiles disappear in tandem,

bundled decency falls to the way side

as foul speak through chattering teeth

vibrate in angst against her endless winter

Still she smiles knowing what rests within,

stuffed in her springtime pocket

of seedlings and smiles, close to her they wait

Squirming for release and peering over edges,

listening for that call of warm temp delight,

tiny parachutes at the ready

Ashen clouds peer down, frowning on what will become,

sensing they too shall once again hide,

pushed aside by blue sky dreams,

warm breeze’d sonnets sung in harmony,

butterfly dance cards filled…once more

her winter pocket will take inventory

Sighing, she ponders in snow flake tricklings,

grinning at giggles of April anticipation,

flipping another calendar page,

staring out over the stark white landscape

and whispering a promise to all…

“Spring will be here soon”

Why is it that my country is deprived of beautiful seasons such as winter and spring? It's unfair...

May you have a wonderful spring as wonderful as this poem, Jack!

Thank you so much. Happy you enjoyed this my friend.
I have read this so many times and read it to my family a bunch of times to really get the full effect of the poem. The wording, the imagery, everything is perfect.

// Still she smiles knowing what rests within,
stuffed in her springtime pocket

I loved these lines. The story you told just swept me away.

Thank you so very much Tia for your kindness.
This is an absolute opus my friend, something I or any reader could read any number of times and find new things in it every time. The imagery is incredibly rich and layered, and comes at the reader in waves. The personification of the Earth, with her pocket of smiles and blue sky dreams and countless other qualities, is moving and executed to powerful perfection. When the imagery does get ominous, as in the second stanza, it is promptly balanced by optimism and anticipation of a greener and sunnier time. It is just what I needed on this cold and grey eastern Canadian morning. Astounding work Jack.

This is so much a poem for my heart and hopes, Jack. It's beautiful. true and sincere, it reaches out with hope and assurance that whatever a day's temperature this time of year, things are going to alter for the better or maybe, the happy same. Rather like life in many ways, There are so many favourtie lines or couplets i could choose.. but i think still, the one at my review opening ..
