Cursing the Moon

Cursing the Moon

A Poem by Jack...

Cursing the Moon

Casting a feather of unknown endeavor

Down on my knees at the edge of this world

Reaching for stars as I fall into never

Cursing the moon as its light is unfurled

Picking a flower then watching it linger

Till it is dead as it sits in my hand

Hearing the calls as I flip them the finger

Done in a nice way so they’ll understand

Pushed into traffic with headlights now glaring

High beams or low beams they all seem the same

Hiding my head from pedestrians staring

Sitting in jail, I am losing this game

Withering fast like that bloom I did mention

Turning to dust with no tears by my side

Shouting at shadows to get their attention

Hearing the howls as I’m running to hide

Drunk on the thoughts of a peaceful existence

Sandpaper sighs cause my feelings to hurt

So comes the time that I make my decision

Hold my head high or return to this dirt

the flow is dizzying, reeling me into it, swooning in the verses.

"Drunk on the thoughts of a peaceful existence" - serenity dreams providing escape when ought it be peace that we settled in rather than drunk in the hope for it?

So true! We are like nothing if we are not proud of ourselves.
A very telling and truthful poem. Thanks for sharing.

hey there Jack, there is a this or that to your poem... the thing is, I always want it all this AND that..or in the words of your poem I want to howl, curse, at that moon all the while holding my head high and saying, ;-p take that as I wave my middle finger in the sky and doing it all before I hit the dirt... . so whatcha say Jack, you up for a wee bit of howling and cursing tonight?? by the way, loved your desire for them to understand, but.. cool poem Jack. ~~redzone

Thanks so much my friend. This poem right here is a prime example of too much caffiene.
Ah yes, I did find this to exceed my expectations. It started off and I doubted it, I'm not going to lie. Yet, you seemed to use that doubt and turn it around to make even more spectacular. Very relatable, we all seem to be in a mess of confusion more often than we choose, yet we would be lost without it.
"Done in a nice way so they’ll understand" hit me quite deep. I was slightly sunk from the line before, but his line made it all make sense. It was amazing how it can be done in a nice way, and then you even go to the extent of saying that they way to understand was to do it in a nice way.
The whole third stanza was beautiful, wonderfully written.
All because I pick favorite doesn't mean the whole thing wasnt great though!
Exceent job, definitely one of the best I've seen from you

Well, I like it. Personally, I am more comfortable in the dark than the light, so I am digging your melancholy - sorry!

Make the right decision. Don't curse the moon--wish on it instead...

Well Marie...I guess it all depends.
I hate myself that I called to mind werewolves...I am SO not that type of kimmer xD Meanwhile, I absolutely love the flow to this...to the point where I did something I never ever do (not even with my own work, my hand to God) I read it aloud. Jack. Jack Jack Jack Jack Jack...you are still my poetic hero.

You're welcome!
Incredible first stanza, it's imagery was powerful and set the tone for the piece accurately. You made your emotions here a true art form. So very well done, Jack.
