Sad Existence ~ inspired by David Scott

Sad Existence ~ inspired by David Scott

A Poem by Jack...

Sad Existence

It is a sad existence, that of a poet

with flowery phrases and disguised meanings

Tossing out happy faces like quarters

splashing in a wishing well with no bottom

Painting heartstrings in an amber shade of gold

lingering silver linings losing their crease

in frayed bottomed hip huggers

that are long out of style

Swishing fragrant melodies on starch white paper

collecting lines in neat rows and margin’d desires

lips fluttering and eyelashes batting

well below the leagues average

Whispering notions of sheer delight,

tantalizing rapid pulses pushing blood

through narrow corridors finding

locked garden entrances in chained Jasmine

Dreaming dreams that only a dreamer could dream

all the while knowing that when they awaken

pen in hand, ink at the ready

these dreams shall never come true

It is a sad existence, that of a poet…who believes their own dreams

Author's Note

Jack...
This poem is based on something David Scott said to me yesterday. The funny thing is his words were meant to be uplifting and positive...so how did I get this from his words? I'm a poet, silly. Thanks David (coach)

Thank you for reading

nice. I see that in so many of you here. That veneer of beauty, of light of ragged nights soaked in the remembrance of spilled blood and sweat and tears to awake and chant the mantra of faith, redemption and forgiveness. I press my nose to the glass and pray for your peace. Then I grab my own sharp stick and tattoo curses in the hides of my chained up monsters. I'm no poet. But I'd kill to see the good ones win for a change.

I love these sentiments, Jack. I'm sure many dreamers and poets can relate.

I know I can. Thanks so very much for always showing such kindness to me. I appreciate you.
We put the words on paper and we wait....dreaming the "right" person will see them. Hoping someone will truly "get" what we are trying to say on the once blank page. We feel things a little big more strongly than "the average bear" but I don't think that is sad....I feel we are the fortunate ones. We feel things through to our souls. Those who cannot do that are the ones with the sad existence. They will never see the beauty of life as we do, Jack. Keep on dreaming, my friend. Perhaps someday....no one knows for sure. This is beautifully written. So very emotive. Lydi**

As beautiful as your words are, Jack, I disagree with that "sad existence". Though some poets do immerse themselves in the deep end, I think that just giving voice (or ink) to their dreams is a lot more than non-poets do. Of course, I am speaking from the experience of recently rediscovering the poet within, and it has added much joy to my existence...

I kind of like the idea of a bottomless wishing well... :)

I've done some of that too Jack . I'm sure David appreciated it so much.
Perhaps in the same way that the wish is father to the thought, dreams do come true.

Beautiful poem.

I am a dreamer, and this was a opposite feeling for me, though, I love to dream, and see it always positive. David does inspire many of us here, he's so intelligent, and good with words. You made here a great analogy, of words my friend. Thank you so much.

Indeed the poetic mind can turn even the most pure into sallow thought, well done, good read.

Well because as poets we feel each word at our core. We interpret others words and let them mingle and slide around inside until some where in our own pain body...or body of love ..the words stop and find a home. Then we are sparked to write again... Wonderful write Jack..xo

I suppose at times it is … I like to think the light rises every so slowly over the horizon that sometimes it is imperceptible, so imperceptible that it feels like a dream where one can never arrive. It is the lack of arrival that is the dream and not the light.

(This is what happens when I listen to Tibetan bowl music while reviewing; you will have to forgive me)

BTW … the beauty of the language in this piece was superlative.
