Said the shadow to the tree

Said the shadow to the tree

A Poem by Jack...

Said the shadow to the tree,

“You know my friend, life is not always fair

Take this vine of fingered grip

Tentacles of timid meaning

Holding you close as to not let go

Filling each bark split void

Offering a feeling of need and want

Given time it will engulf

Block the sun light

Tighten in mass fury

Wrap itself of everything you stand for

Then when strength is gone

And you topple to the ground

This vine will happily move on

To the next tree

While you rot

Returning to the earth,

which once gave you life”

The tree replied,

“But it feels so good to be wanted”

The sun set and the shadow was silent

A deep poem. Many meanings reside within this one. We return to the earth whence we came...

Thanks so much Diana
A very interesting poem, penned in the most creative way, and carrying with it a very innovative idea. I shivered at the power of your words, and I still shiver. Wonderfully penned!

I think, however, 'sun set' and 'sun light' should be 'sunset' and 'sunlight.'

Nice imagery. I think that tree could use a few AA meetings though. :P

What a wonderful parable Jack. Sometimes we give until there truly is nothing left all because we wanted to belong. A very different and a poem to ponder.

Bravo... this was magnificent! The frailty of our existence is what makes it so profound.

Thank you so much my friend.
"It feels so good to be wanted"

Seems that at least the tree and the vine had each other. Even if the relationship was a bit lopsided. The shadow on the other hand lived by the whim of the sun and really had no one. Melencholy write and thoughts..

Thanks so much my friend. Talk about coming out of the shadows, nice to see you.
How flawless would my existence be had it not been for those women that could very easily be the vine. Have I ever knowingly used and enjoyed it (because after all wasn't I using as well)? Was she really using me if I manipulated and positioned her into it? Ah... the vicarious pleasure of willingly rusting away...

Funny that … whatever could you be talking about? Great one.

I like this Jack.
The last two lines were perfect little add ons or change of focus.
Yes, this poem could branch into many philosophical discussions.
Thank you for directing me to this poem. I enjoyed it immensely!
