Sometimes you just don't belong

Sometimes you just don't belong

A Poem by Jack...

Sometimes you just don’t belong

I chose to be me

Found out just how hard it is

Kicking pebbles to the curb

Watching daydreams shattered

When the impact of truth

Becomes a mirror I’d just rather break (who needs luck anyway)

Hands in my pockets

Clinking loose change (as if change matters)

And simple gestures

Are torn and tossed

Paper mosaics on a dust particle breeze

As someone flips me a dove

~

My heart sat open

No line, no waiting, empty as a candy shop after Halloween

That little bell above the door rang

You walked in, smiling…at me?

Dirty apron and all, milk chocolate drippings

And sugar sweet became you

~

When I see another, a friend…yours or mine?

Danger Will Robinson, flailing metallic arms

Blinking colored lights in pinball fashion

Collect in the corners of my eyes

As I say under my breath

“that is not my name”

Lonely streets of crowded stares

Pointing fingers that are not hardware store signs

Naked in the freezing cold, sweating beads of Mardi Gras dreams

Facing a beggar wearing a t-shirt that reads

“Sometimes you just don’t belong”

which we politely ignore

This reminds me of Frost's poem Acquainted with the Night. I like it very much. I can feel the hollow core and the echoes of sadness in this and yes, sometimes we don't belong.

Thanks so very much Anne. It is so very nice to see you again. You have been missed my friend.
As an outsider
Who's looking in
Your words ring true
With a powerful voice.

Which
We ignore
At our own peril.

No matter
How much we want
To belong to others
Without selling
Our precious soul
For a handful of beads.

Thank you so much
"sweating beads of Mardi Gras dreams." I might just have to plagiarize that line.

Be my guest...Thanks BR.
Into the ever-changing landscape of recognizing ones` self. Standing in the way of true harmony with others, as well as, our selves. Child of self says "Let Go of Ego." (ha, ha, pun intended)
There really is no difference between people, in the most simplistic of ways, in the womb of the universes` we are all babes, searching. Knowing and yet not, eyes of a child type of Zen. You are touching the surface of a deeper meaning, reach, dreams where we all meet.

Do we ignore because we are a "we" - and it's nice to belong in that duo? Belonging is a state of being comfortable in our own skin... a trick so hard to master these days. You have me thinking, Jack...

Think on Rita. Thanks so much my friend.
Great writing, even you recognize you do not belong, and want to be yourself, you already proved you are a treasure to entire humanity , does not mean I tried to be brave like that,

Thanks so much my friend. Dr. Smith would be proud. :)
We humans develop 'mind set' in which we view the universe through lenses we've made thinking that is only how we can see things. This poem is set deep in that mystique, a ride in the head of someone who is convinced they will remain unsatisfied in this life. Well done.

Thanks so very much Mark for your thought provoking and kind words
This is an amazing write about your subject and all that surrounds it.
The visions it creates as I read it come to life with your words.
Full of details that make the picture in my mind and clearly convey your message.

You are welcome.
Oh Jack, this is entirely too relatable. I know how this feels, it hurts and sometimes makes you wonder why. Why do we try to fit in when we so evidently don't and can't.

Just know you always fit in. No matter what. You're the shining star of WC.
