That Barren Branch

That Barren Branch

A Poem by Jack...

That Barren Branch

That barren branch

high above this desolate space

Crooked shade designs on a dying earth

Bent and twisted of past sunlight reach

Naked to the green-less world

Rough hewed collections

Of ant trail pathways

And rot of all that was good

Once filled with life, happy on the breeze

Summer fashions of leaf pattern wishes

Colors of blissful post card greetings

Bearing fruit of friendlier times

Now rests in solitude’s wicked grip

Knotted and splintered bark winding

to a tapered end of winter’s calling

Cold fingers on gray-cast skylines

Dying of desperate missings

Fading into a bleak sunset

Disappearing somewhere beyond the dark

That barren branch…is me

the barren branch. so much more beautiful in its austerity than the prickly cactus. And resonant with the memory of lush leaves.

Ah, but that branch holds such intense light that it shall never fade away...and as metaphor, a branch that falls can only nurture the earth, so you are always connected and loved :) x

dear Jack... we are like bulbs planted
In the Fall ... and in Spring ... Live will
Stir our soul and the sun will warm our
Heart. We will bloom once again in
Colors of the wind. We will reach for the
newly budded branches where songbirds
will sing Hallelujah. Beautiful poetry.
truly... Pat

Thanks so much Josie for your kindness. I will consider doing that.
Very powerful...

"Dying of desperate missings
Fading into a bleak sunset
Disappearing somewhere beyond the dark
That barren branch…is me"

To be able to fill each word with such raw emotion... You are an amazing poet.

You're such a cutie...
The great thing about this analogy Jack is that spring brings new shoots and leaves to soak up summer's warmth. Go dance with Lady Frieda and write somthing stirring and sexy. Talking of which where the hell is she?

Thanks John, I'll see if she's up to it.
i used to be summer, but now i feel like november...the barren branch that once sprouted life...and now, my leaves are gone, fallen from the branch...
