Still your skin eludes me

Still your skin eludes me

A Poem by Jack...

Still your skin eludes me

I am helpless, tied to my daily routine

Knowing that distance stands in my way

Concrete and asphalt paths may lead to you

but the detour called life keeps me from moving

You smile at me from different shores

of casted shadows long of the season

Calling out in silent voice, less than a whisper

but volume’d of pitching winds and winged desires

Invoices pile up and calculator batteries run down

A swift arm across this desk reveals my frustration

as folders and tape dispensers collect in a pile on the floor

staring up, wondering, “What did we do?”

You run of dreams collected and an eclipsing sun

swaying in darkness on couch cushions

formed of comfort and welcoming warmth

as time makes itself at home

If only I could be there, by your side

gazing upon your beauty, running my fingers through your hair

gathering your fragrance on the cloth of my memory

touching on your sweet flesh

You send chocolate covered phrases

reaching out from congested city streets

and warm coffee cups flavored with enchanting

thoughts and lasting moments

And here I am, shackled to a wooden structure with sticking drawers

going through the paces, staring out of webbed windows

longing for but a touch, as I write…poetry

Yes, poetry…love verses because…well…because

it is the only way I can touch you

and

still your skin eludes me

Just gorgeous! Beautifully presented Jack...distance is a killer...but...harder when there is a poet involved because they can voice it ;) lol ♥

Thank you so very much sweet Poppy. It certainly is.
You had me when your speaker swept the desk clean with his arm! You should tell that narrator of yours that it is only miles that separates him from his love. I long to read the poem that lets him get the girl! Angi~

Ha! Good answer, Jack. You are so welcome, my friend.
oh My!!!!! I am speechless, this one took me, the last stanza brought me back. Wow, Jack you are one amazing romantic, I know you are also like this personally, some one can not write such a nice poem and not be what he is writing about. My mouth is still agape, wahh!!!

Thanks so much Cassie, Indeed this was very personal for me.
Heavy sigh! The romantic longing hampered by the responsibilities of life "the detour called life keeps me from moving". The honest every day images contrasted by the romantic fantasizing is so effective, Jack. This stanza:

You send chocolate covered phrases
reaching out from congested city streets
and warm coffee cups flavored with enchanting
thoughts and lasting moments

is absolutey divine!!!! One of your very best. Lydi**

Thank you so very much Lydi. Your words this day humble me.
I have always believed that no letters, no phone calls or messaging can ever make up for the real touch of the beloved. This amazing poem, full of longing, just affirms my belief.

The beauty of the verses in italics left me speechless... Just too wonderful a poem Jack.

"You smile at me from different shores" -- I love this line, and the emotional ideas that it evokes.

Emotional piece, my friend. I enjoy the beautiful tragedy of this one; sitting within the moment and fully feeling the longing (yearning) for something to the point that it actually begins to affect you physically as well as mentally...I can relate to these words. You have such a strong voice, but are able to project it in such a tender fashion.

Thank you so much my friend. I always enjoy your visits.
What a meaningful piece. So funny the way poetry often does not touch those it was written for. I don't know how this piece could fail to reach any that reads it. Delicate, yet strong.

That is flippin' fabulous, my friend. Lovers divided have found their anthem ;)
So many great lines woven together. I'm surprised someone doesn't eat you up you're so charming and sweet. Oh... Just thought - as long as they're not zombies! Lol... That would not end well ;)
Wonderful, heartfelt write!
