Why

Why

A Poem by Jack...
"

Inspired by Frieda's Stormy Weather

"

Why

Here afloat this angry sea,

dancing waves torment, covering the meaning

in foam doubts of white trickling lines,

aiming for a shoreline  I have fled from

In my mind appear salt water nightmares,

an empty row boat, no room for passengers,

filled to capacity with questions

all asking the same thing…why?

The vision that clings is one of happiness

Red letters in poetic phrase wafting

towards an oasis horizon,

fading in and out, changing shapes in parallel wishes

This circle of hope touches the surface near my heart

yet I do not reach, because of razor sharps edges,

at least I assume, though they seem smooth enough

but still fear of hurt shadows all reason

Still my heart reaches, aching of indecision,

daring myself to take that chance,

allowing the past to be the past while

barely keeping my head above water

and I grab it, for all it’s worth, my hands grip

my eyes take heed and my breath finds clear air

where fog and mist once anchored,

as I find I am rescued, in more ways than one

Sunlight lends the outline of a figure

strong and tall, a glistening silhouette on this wind tossed ocean

arms open, assurance emitting from weathered hands

warmth holds me close as I find I am home

And somehow I still ask why?

Though the rest of my question

has now become…

“did I wait so long?”

Unexpected. The sort of work that keeps you guessing until the very end... Nice bit of intrigue.

Thanks so much Diana. You never know what you might find with me...and for that fact, neither do I. .. read more
Why? I ask that question a lot.
Usually all I get back are echoes of my own voice, crying "why?"

But I believe that one day, all of my "whys" will be answered.
That is the anchor I cling to....

Thank you so very much. This was inspired by Frieda's poem, "Storm Weather".
"WHY?" Unfortunately that is question that is often unanswerable. Sometimes we just can't make sense of the things that happen in life.....things over which we have no control. Towards the end of this poem, I thought you were talking about finding spirituality....accepting religion. If that is the case, I hope this gives you comfort. Very well written with splendid imagery, Jack. lydi**

Thank you so much my friend.
This was very clever there at the end. Sometimes there just aren't any answers:

In my mind appear salt water nightmares,
an empty row boat, no room for passengers,
filled to capacity with questions
all asking the same thing…why?

Questions will forever outweigh answers, such is the way of the world.

Some of this I can relate to so well, my friend... Not going to go there though. A lovely write, with so many emotions woven within it. I gave many thoughts on this, but my ending us different than yours - so I'll remain silent in my further appreciation of your fine poem.

Yeah... Well, I kept pushing... Lol
Love those lines - you did good here! :)

Uh oh, I saw the life preserver and wondered what was coming next, I'm humbled that my words inspired you to write this Jack, it's outstanding...I found myself captivated and drowning in each word at the same time. The finish is killer, like drowning all over again, it has that much impact! Amazing is such an overused word but it fits so aptly! Amazing, my friend.............
