The coming of fall

The coming of fall

A Poem by Jack...
"

Autumn is just around the corner

"

The coming of fall

Crape myrtle highlights

in chartreuse diversions, oak tree decisions

along brittle stem

Maple leaf push pins and ash scented postcards

Autumn approaches, its fingers to send

Northern now breezes

as petals start falling,  blending the colors

 of September dreams

Days count much shorter and windows are open,

change in direction a’ dance on the stream

Standing behind me now

caught in the mirror, reflections of summer

and hummingbird song

leaves painted softer in patterns of wishes

butterfly tickles may happen along

Cider on counters

and scarves plaid and woolen, hang from the pegs

in the entryway hall

Come again welcomes on echoes of sunlight

send out the greeting, the coming of fall

Cider and scarves, coupled with breezes and colored leaves... you have painted fall so warmly, Jack. I am so eagerly awaiting the change here on the East Coast, and your poem makes me want it even more!

This was such a joy to read Jack. There are so many lovely lines and I really liked the rhyme scheme. The days might be shorter but they are glorious just like the images you have shown us here.

You've got that right. It's like a give and take seasonal thing. :)
Very beautifully crafted, Jack. I especially liked your last two lines: "Come again welcomes on echoes of sunlight/send out the greeting, the coming of fall" Autumn is the most gorgeous season and deserves the royal welcome you have provided.

Ahhh, yes...the smell of apples and maple sap cooking down into syrup...and the smoke from burning leaves. The breathtaking beauty of the trees, putting on their party colors...the crisp air...
Do I miss these things? Sometimes, I do.

Yes fall brings the hummingbird back to my deck. No more plump flowers to feed upon. So special. Beautiful poem, Jack,

You have painted a beautiful imagery on the coming of Autumn and the many splendours that defines the season. Days are shorter like you have said but I'm not short on praise...Happy Fall...:)
