Wake up

Wake up

A Poem by Jack...
"

Sometimes you wish you could

"

Wake up

Bombs bursting, heart racing

Running and legs won’t stem the lead

Frantic trees hide behind shadows

Night sky blisters in shards of molten disguise

“Am I asleep, it feels so real?”

Broken bodies, scattered streets

Rivers run red and black in shameless streams

Screams become the music of the moon,

now fading at half mast…half faced

“Why does morning wait?”

Locked doors offer no answers

Shattered windows only exit inward

Dreary hallways miles long shrink with every step

as paintings fall with no warning, framed splinters cut

“Did the sun forget to rise?”

Ravens form clouds, silhouettes of death

Fear cringes at the sight of my

tattered clothing and ruptured tendons,

cut from sweat dripping bed sheets

“Ring alarm clock, ring!”

Alone, chained to stairways of disbelief

Why can’t she be here…I shout her name but nothing comes out

No breath, no sound, yet desire within wrinkled pillow cases

She claims to be a bad dream

“Oh for only that bad dream…only that dream!”

Tiny hands touch, petite grips

Weary eyes on front porch railings of wilted morning glories

Shaking…violently shaking, breaking the spell, calling out in

words I have longed to hear…

“Wake up my love, you are having a nightmare!”

Wow Jack, I felt as though I were reading a Dali painting and the feeling was rather disturbing. Your friend in words, pete

That is a great compliment, thank you so much Pete
I have those kind of nightmares...I can't run, I can't scream...
I don't have them often, but, oh...when I do...

Thank you sweet Angel for always gracing me with your smile.
Like Frieda, I have nightmares so staggering that I wake up from the sound of my own scream! And it's always the same nightmare, always someone standing beside my bed or at the foot of it.

Your intensity is riveting, Jack. Have you ever considered writing a mystery?

Thanks so very much Doc.
When a nightmare feels so real, it is difficult to wake up and take on the day. Such intense imagery. Haunting and eerie....we will the alarm clock to ring and yet it will not. We linger in the terror wanting to crawl out....yes, you have set this scene perfectly. Powerful poetry! Lydi**

Thanks so much my sweet friend. I appreciate you stopping by.
This is so well written.
It is so dark and relates to the unconscious fear of nightmares so well..
Thank you for sharing it.
