Wake up

Wake up

A Poem by Jack...
"

Sometimes you wish you could

"

Wake up

Bombs bursting, heart racing

Running and legs won’t stem the lead

Frantic trees hide behind shadows

Night sky blisters in shards of molten disguise

“Am I asleep, it feels so real?”

Broken bodies, scattered streets

Rivers run red and black in shameless streams

Screams become the music of the moon,

now fading at half mast…half faced

“Why does morning wait?”

Locked doors offer no answers

Shattered windows only exit inward

Dreary hallways miles long shrink with every step

as paintings fall with no warning, framed splinters cut

“Did the sun forget to rise?”

Ravens form clouds, silhouettes of death

Fear cringes at the sight of my

tattered clothing and ruptured tendons,

cut from sweat dripping bed sheets

“Ring alarm clock, ring!”

Alone, chained to stairways of disbelief

Why can’t she be here…I shout her name but nothing comes out

No breath, no sound, yet desire within wrinkled pillow cases

She claims to be a bad dream

“Oh for only that bad dream…only that dream!”

Tiny hands touch, petite grips

Weary eyes on front porch railings of wilted morning glories

Shaking…violently shaking, breaking the spell, calling out in

words I have longed to hear…

“Wake up my love, you are having a nightmare!”

I don't remember my dreams. Perhaps it is better that way. This is a formidable write. Nightmares brought to light on paper.

Ahh, the structure is soo lovely, Jack. Brilliant, even. And you portrayed some truth here. Sometimes, I wish someone could have waken me up, too. :)

Great set of images and feelings from a nightmare. You captured that 'not quite awake' not sure what's real transition thing.

This is a side of your writing that is new to me - and I will tell you - you blew me away. The images you created gave me goosebumps. Truly a haunting write that I won't soon forget.

Thanks so very much Julie. Sometimes I just have to drawl the shades and go dark for a while.
You have created a heart pounding dream here where one horrific thing melts into the next. The good part about nightmares is that the memory does fade. This is a great piece of descriptive writing.

Some nightmares do Anne and some don't. I do appreciate your kind words to me always.
