Crossing lines

Crossing lines

Crossing lines

I stood

staring out the weathered screen door

at herringbone brick walkways

through pastel frosted glaze,

mesmerized by the visions

my fog laced eyes did see

Squeaky hinges announced my moves

as I dreamed my way

to the gate and drew a heart in the sand

You drew

a line in the same sand, perfect in shape,

lengthwise of opposite directions

perpendicular to the sunrise

as far as the eye (my eyes) could see

and you smiled

I watched as my heart shaped caricature

grew multicolored wings,

semi-gloss and brilliant, of opaque cellophane

You whispered,

in fun, of happiness as trust sprang from the ground

like spring daffodils and moon lit tree tops

frolicking along the welcomed shore line

beneath regal palms and blueberry skies,

and I smiled

My heart flew, skies formed no boundary

imaginary or not

on polyester clouds filled with piñata sparrows

You watched

as I followed, taking that step,

blinded by my own imbalance,

forgetting the promises of yesterday,

crossing that line

drawn by your cherished hand

Our eyes met, hazel finding brown

but you looked away,

grey dripped form the heavens and butterflies faded

I fell

to the ground at your feet,

still your eyes found a distraction

Crawling… making my way, reaching back for that prior thought

to my side of this horizontal trust

and while still on my knees…I apologize

Thank you so much my friend.
Wow, Jack.. the imagery in this piece is yummy! It would seem just as much the fault of the one who drew the line.. alluring and tempting in nature.. as the one who crossed the line.. stars-struck.. perhaps both should be apologizing... This is remarkably beautiful in tone and flow. Much enjoyed!

Thank Lori, but it was well known the reason for the line being drawn, so all of the fault rests on .. read more
