Still Bleeding

Still Bleeding

A Poem by Jack...
"

How exactly does a broken heart feel? (ask me)

"

Still bleeding

Sadness bleeds the weeping heart

beyond the clouded penitentiary

where tombstones sit in lighted valleys

and songbirds fall from the skies

Wallowing on gallow’d heels

past lavender of the once scented

Scraping the white picket fence

till flakes of life rest scattered on the sun baked walk

Cracks in the concrete beckon,

whistling in the wind swept frowns

on a truthful Tuesday

that holds no meaning

At this gathering, the masses run

and banners wave a hasty lingering farewell

Popcorn vendors remove their striped clothing

of peppermint colors and butter stained collars

Trees leave and leaves wither

beneath this canopy of sorrow

painted in a language

that does not include love

A lone black cat zigs and zags its way,

searching for a soul it may affect,

as wingless butterflies squirm in rhythm

to “Born under a bad sign”

Dreams now sent afloat on aimless streams

of melting memories are softened by the heat

yet intensified by the arcade mirror

that skews the view formed before the mind

Carnivals use this day to guess your weight

for your age does not matter, you are dead anyway

In your right hand one half, in your left the other

two pieces…still bleeding

I was sure thus write would be special when I saw the title. A man who appreciates the bliss of love usually experiences the extrusion of her comfort in the most profound ways.
You gave me some vivid images to see the disquiet. I like the pacing black cat... I have seen it stalk my own corpse waiting to pounce if life even twitches with hope.
Wonderful write Jack!

Thanks so much David. Broken, ripped apart, shattered, it doesn't matter it still hurts like hell.
Extremely sad, not like your usual romance reads that I enjoy but it hits the heart in a personal way.

I like to call it reverse romance... Thanks so much my friend. Glad you enjoyed it.
Some great imagery there and the last stanza is brilliant.

Thank you so much for your kind words. I am happy you enjoyed it.
I can hear the barrel organ music that should go with this fading into the distance. Sad and rather dark.

Know what you mean. There was an explosion in the soup factory and all I could find was a fork.
I really do get this. When sad and broken hearted nothing is a source of joy. There is no end to the relentless sadness.only a bleak side of evrything.

Definitely hitting the nail on the head Keith. Thanks so much for your kind words.
This was interesting, Jack. I am a terrible judge of poetry, so I have no idea how "good" or "bad" this piece is, but I liked it.

It's all about how it makes you feel Seth, just like a story. Thanks so much.
This is clearly a deeply felt piece laden with such emotion and variation of feelings.
I'm always taken with how well chosen your words are Jack, and how well rendered the images and metaphors you choose to convey are.

This was yet another moving and meaningful piece of work.
Loved it.

Thats okay my friend...I always enjoy your work it is so well done
This is so emotional, Jack. A bleeding heart...always consider itself dead. What more could you feel if you are broken?

We all pass through this stage of being wounded. I understand how to carry a cross...to have sleepless nights...to weep from night til dawn. Those times of bleeding...are still not constant. We are in this wheel of life which turns everytime. We should never lose faith.

A heart-breaking piece written beautifully.
