Lost Poet

Lost Poet

A Poem by Jack...
"

Broken heart and poetry...

"

Lost Poet

This desk of scattered papers,

blotted ink and envelopes…

passages penned and tossed

in the confusion that lives and breathes in my mind…my heart

Distance frames the walls of

the addressed…since canceled

Splintered dreams on the edges are worn,

time has shaved the moments…the places

on broken calendars swinging freely

of lost dates scratched within the numbered boxes

Sorrow carved in the fine oak grain

by an empty pen with dulling point…blackened

Poetry sits meaningless

with rhyming phrases of hope…wishes

begging for but a brief visit,

only to be discarded between reams of teardrop leaflets

Verses formed deep within a vacant heart,

a lonely space, emptied by the loss

I write in an absolute mist,

fog induced renditions of another’s touch

formulating in the same words…always the same words,

repeating in the darkness that sighs in rhythm of a flickering candle flame

Over and over and over,

echoing the halls of this barren home

Shadows drain the breath

of hopeless desires…built on manicured dreams

within a world collapsing in shredded

prose, and fractured fingers, still writing

I am lost without you…

"Verses formed deep within a vacant heart,

This is too emotional, Jack. Losing someone you love is really depressing.
A very moving piece. Thanks for sharing this.

Thomas, my friend, thank you so very much.
A loss so deep that it stills the poet's pen - you write this so poignantly. And once that shredded prose is picked up, it will be woven into something beautiful... A touching write, Jack.

This is certainly a desolate write, it screams loneliness and longing without an end in sight.

Poetry sits meaningless

begging for but a brief visit,

I know we all feel that way at one time or another, luckily not much can hold our pen still, or our thoughts, and no matter if they're happy or sad, you always touch my soul with your writing Jack.

Jack your work almost always goes deep in my heart and digs up some thought long buried which makes the work even more resonant. In my case I wrote for all the wrong reasons - to reach out to those who had no intention of reaching back - and after a time - I just gave up. Now I write because I have to - but my 'voice' is so different. I am almost never "hopeful" - the thing that came back is dark, lonely and sad. So it makes the ache in this piece even more palpable. I always hope that poets don't stay "lost" - if that makes sense.

thank YOU!
Your loss has created incredible poetry. I've heard said before that only the melancholy artist are worth viewing, in your case that rings true. Great job on the poem sir.

Wow, this is such a heartbreaking piece, it is relatable to anyone who has experienced (a) loss. The flow and structure if this write is amazing, it flows so flawlessly and is perfectly written. Amazing, my friend.
