The media, foaming at the mouth to spew bad news, sickens me.

 

 

HOT OFF THE PRESSES!

 

 

Alternating current events

pass through me in vivid headlines

of charged and emotive chants,

bringing to the forefront (abundantly)

broken dreams of

disconnected rules

 

Bold print

and exaggerated fonts

scream vehemently,

through the faded plastic, (as I pass by)

the metal container requiring

my last fifty cents

 

My fingertips,

blackened by

the soot of disdain

and the pompous dull spastic paths (sprinkle glitter here)

of the rich and famous,

thumb through

the day before

 

Truth charts a path

to the opinions of others,

only to take a back seat

in withered form

with the classifieds (maybe) and notices

of death of those we don’t know

 

Tragedy blooms

in profits of many facets,

filling the needs of the

editorial wallets, (and bank accounts)

bulging of despise

 

HOT OFF THE PRESSES!

Jack, no body can do it better thank you telling about those fat , greedy cats profiting on bad news and controversy of any shape or form and spreading the hate between human beings in a dark world instead of lighting up a candle and offering solutions . It feels to me it is propaganda now to one side or the other and not merely news. All have their agendas and lobbying buddies to influence things. Excellent subject matter and poem...:)

It's all schadenfreude. The news is now presented as entertainment; yellow journalism would be proud. Great social and political commentary. Walter Cronkite would never had made it in this business today.

Some problems with mass News Media: Competing for viewers and being paid for by advertisers. "Facts" get badly distorted in that mix. It's cheaper to slap a pundit up on a screen who's a lot of opinion and little journalism as well. If they're charismatic and play to viewers irrational fears so much the better. When our media does it it's called "spin." When the enemy's media does it it's called propaganda. As for me I call it tragic comedy

Thanks so much Rita...sometimes they just make me sick. To see people who are happy about tragedy, but then they report it and act like they care.
