A Flower of Peace

A Flower of Peace

A Poem by Jack...
"

One lone flower atop the battlefield sits

"

A Flower of Peace

by Jack

The last breath expelled from my lungs called your name

As I fall to the ground on this dark battlefield

Weary and worn from the conflict so senseless

I reach now to find the locket concealed

It has tasted my blood and my sweat in its lifetime

My strength and my wisdom tucked neatly away

Protected from harm by the sword of my family

My life it has saved over countless long days

Inside lies a lock of your golden blonde hair

Your scent ever lingers away in the fold

Reminders of love that waits my returning

A heart that burns warm in the face of the cold

I look to the sky as the clouds are now parting

Smoke swallowed trees leave a ghostly embrace

The landscape is littered with dreams of the fallen

For a time there was not but a sliver of grace

My legs they are weak but I must end this session

My combat complete when my blade bid its due

This hatred of war is surpassed by my anguish

As I stare out ahead at destructions foul view

The wages of love send me out to the frontline

Your safety my goal which I’ll die to protect

The vault of the heavens hath sent you to love me

A loss for the keeper whom smiles with respect

As our enemy runs I am founded victorious

Your honor insured for as long as I stand

For precious your life is worth more than all blessings

Every detractor my love shall remand

The cannon wheel ruts they sink low in the soil

Patterns that crisscross like warrior cloth

Bandages made from the same are a’holding

My return as I promised shall be as my troth

As your love in my heart will be my defender

Dreams of your kiss will stand as my shield

Lone desire for you shall carry me over

As I finally depart this burned out battlefield

Trudging along casting fears to the wind

A glimpse of a most unbelievable sight

There within all the muck and the mire

Stands the most perfect daisy so pure and so white

Its amber face glowing joyful and free

Rain soaked impressions surround the green stalk

For a second I smile as it starts to make sense

Peace is a vision that starts as one talks

I dare not pick it or pull by the roots

You would not care for me much if I did

I shall leave it to prosper a long healthy life

And be thankful the death and destruction is rid

My fairest I’m coming I shan’t be that long

Till within your arms I shall once again be

This flower’s reminder that life shall live on

And from this day and forward we all will be free

If you enjoyed it, then I am happy.
"As your love in my heart will be my defender
Dreams of your kiss will stand as my shield
Lone desire for you shall carry me over
As I finally depart this burned out battlefield"
Those lines stood out for me Jack for they sum up the whole thing.
Love is like a battle field of sorts, winning or losing hearts and minds. A battle of will and survival in a harsh world. You take all those elements and weave a battle field but I hear also cries for peace in some places. And you finish it with freedom which all souls long for that one day from this prison...Pen on Mr. Ivy...:)

Holly, as always, I appreciate you.
Wonderful. I can't believe this hasn't gotten more reviews, it's written quite well. The flower symbolizing love, life is a battlefield, and we are all pursuing the desires of our deepest heart. Again, lovely choice of words, they strike the reader with awe betwixt the sorrows that the author conveyed. Another terrific write, Jack. Well done!

Thank you so much. I truly appreciate your kind words for me.
The wages of war...be they the types leaving corpses, and destruction or the type waged in the mind or in relationships are all a very steep prices to pay for peace, peace of mind or civility in love. Beauty is the true nature of life and even in the darkest of places can still be found and savored. Beautiful and stirring write.
