Our connection in the sky

Moon Watching

by jack

A windmill in the distance cross a dusty windswept plain

The earth so parched and desolate without a hint of rain

The air is hot and humid as the sun begins to set

So long the day of loneliness my mind to soon forget

As twilight comes upon the sky in violet descent

The coolness of the nighttime sky upon me now has met

A wanderer, a journey on a path this heart does grow

The minutes fly by rapidly as life it moves so slow

The stubble of the empty field I walk upon on this day

What’s left of every memory the wind hath blown away

Once flourished in the brightest greens of natures bounty true

Now shadowed by the charcoal sky as night is falling through

I pick the spot where I last stood, a vantage point to see

Of everything the evening it unfolds in front of me

The song of nighttime creatures as their time has come to play

Awakened by the night in all the life it does display

Behind me is an orange glow of radiant design

The clouds ignited tangerine my searching eyes do find

Before me lies an empty slate as smooth as velveteen

For very soon the image that my heart has come to see

Will rise from where it once had been before the day departs

To fill my mind with wonder and to ease against my heart

A nighthawk with its wings a’ spread does fly up overhead

Searching for its evening meal, on which it’s life is fed

When peeking the horizon I can see the lighted arc

My pulse it beats more rapidly of this angelic spark

My eyes they come to focus on the light that’s shining there

More beautiful than anything I can find anywhere

As now the moon, its happy face does shine on me below

I watch it as it moves its path so perfect and so slow

Two thousand miles this night does glow, another she does see

For time has come as we both look upon its majesty

So far apart and yet we both can sit within the night

And share the evening’s gifted show beneath the same moonlight

To know that you are looking at the same bright moon above

Our heavenly connection that we use to send our love

Of all the things we share I know that this one here shall be

Forever in our waiting hearts a lasting memory

So on this night of watching in this field so worn and bare

I’ll use the moon to send my love and show you that I care

The moon is beautiful, I have always loved it since I was a child, I used to sit at the window and look at it, talk to it, sing to it. HA!

This was a beautiful piece, Jack! This is a beautiful piece, you make the moon shine brighter than it already does.

Thank you so very much my friend.
sharing this beauty with that special someone is the best experience...my significant other and i have a long distance relationship...but we still look at the same moon and discuss its beauty as we talk on the phone late at night...brings us closer.

Thank you Jacob, I understand completely.
'My pulse it beat more rapidly' reading this, you've painted the most lovely of pictures with your splendorous poetry here Jack.

'As twilight comes upon the sky in violet descent'

Somehow you've managed to make the moon even more awe inspiring than it already was...

Thank you so much Dear Neva
Very romantic piece from a romantic poet. I love it when the sun and moon are out at the same time. That's beautiful to me

Thank you sir
How romantic. There's a native song here in our country telling that "the moon is a messenger of love".
I like the rhyming and the meter. As usual, I read it loud enough to feel its perfectness. But I think the weakness of this piece is the 5th stanza. The 1st line lacks one syllable for its measure, while the 4th line did not rhyme with the last word of the 3rd line.

However, it's just that I am hooked to reading your poem aloud. That's why I found it out. Other than that, this is still a brilliant piece. :)

Thank you so much. I will revisit the poem and check for the meter and rhyme you speak of.
"To know that you are looking at the same bright moon above
Our heavenly connection that we use to send our love"

Every full moon we sit back and wonder what the others view is on the other side. And we trust that the love being shared is transmuted through that bright light of the moon...xo Wonderful as always..xo

Thank you so very much sweet Lily Mae
The rhythm in this is bouncy to me, has a spring in its step. The rhythm was so good I found I could sing it in limerick form haha. Very well penned, I can't find anything to critique here. Very well done :)

No problem :) Keep at it
I love the moon; it has always called to me. Your poem is soft and lovely. To sit beneath the same moon and send your love across its moonbeams is a wonderful thought. It brings comfort to those souls who are apart.

Thank you so very much. I always appreciate your kind words.
Beautiful, Jack. The last few lines mold it all together so nicely in my mind. I often look up at night and wonder how the evening sits with those I care for. Hoping for their safety, that life is being kind to them, and their deepest desires are being fulfilled. A sweet melody on an otherwise cloudy day of thoughts and emotions.
