The cold reality of a lost love

Forever Winter Lingers

by jack

Forever winter lingers

Breezes fuel the cold

Altering our state of mind

Spring is put on hold

Days of endless wonder

What may lie ahead

Fill our thoughts with questions

Where this way hath led

Sent from outer regions

Called to line the past

Wishing is so fruitless

As our dreams are cast

Time does light the moment

Shadows of the sun

Clouded streets of nowhere turn

Found encased in one

Losing what we thought we had

Standing in the rain

Painful as the torrents go

Memories remain

Locked away till needed

Smiles may produce

Laughter hides in open view

Happiness reduced

Love was once a pillar

Yes indeed it stood

Built on trust and honesty

All we saw as good

Slowly it eroded

Caught between the lines

Miles stood between us

Pointed to the signs

Strength it should have kept us

Held our heads above

Powerful its wisdom

If this be truly love

I always thought we’d be

Standing hand in hand

Facing what might greet us

What life might demand

Now broken by the roadside

Energy depleted

What was once so wonderful

To never be completed

Forever winter lingers

Here inside my heart

Springtime laughs at me indeed

Never more to start

My pleasure :)
Reading this sadness my heart Jack... how truly devastating to be broken in this way. If only the seasons could bring you back together...(sigh)~

To never be completed

Forever winter lingers

Here inside my heart

Springtime laughs at me indeed

Never more to start"~ Beautifully written!

Thank you so much.
This is a very soulful write. "Breezes fuel the cold" is an extremely creative line. We know of wood to fuel fire, but you speak of the absence of heat being fueled. That's unique! You have laced your poem with some good metaphors and the photograph at the beginning sets the right mood. The titular line "Forever winter lingers", seems rather innocuous, but upon reflection, I feel it is the most powerful and evocative line in the poem. It truly brings the reader face to face with the absolute and eternal triumph of winter and infuses sadness in the heart.
On a critical note, I think the poem is a tad too lengthy. You do enough to keep the reader interested the whole time, but I do believe that it would create a stronger impact in a more condensed form. A good write nonetheless.

You're welcome! :)
I think this can be true for some. We give the power or the resposability of our happiness to anouther. It feels like "forever winter", but if we stop moving our soul into the cold, Spring will find us...
Sorry... I just felt that response. I was not trying to counter the feeling of the poetry. You expressed the loss very well! This is jsut what it feels like. Empty nothingness forever and ever. Beyond life and death. I get it and I have been here.
A great write as I have come to expect from you Jack!
