It is myself I see

It is myself I see

A Poem by Jack...
"

Reflections are only what we see

"

It is myself I see

by jack

In this mirror, stands a man, who smiles back at me

I seem to understand his face for all that I can see

He seems to know me back again his eyes do search me so

An image of the past begins and endless feelings flow

For when did this, my age become, a shadowed light to shine

If only I had known myself I’d change me in this time

For when these days do call my name and I so slowly fall

On bended knee it’s not the same for time has come to call

Yet somewhere in the deepest sense I feel that heart beat race

If only I would see a smile that now adorns your face

Then back to days of long before my mind would surely fly

If you were only here with me to quell these tears I cry

Like fog does filter through my sight and days of long ago

Do pass before me on this night of memories to show

I see a different person there, not who I soon shall be

But that of someone laughing loud and living happily

For if my life is in your arms then all of me will say

Reflections do not mean a thing I’ll look the other way

For on that day the world will spin in perfect majesty

If but my eyes do see your smile now standing there with me

My dreams are of a stubborn realm to come before my eyes

For as I wake from every sleep I learn to realize

That everything does disappear, the sun and moon above

If any day I wake to find I do not have your love

So of this face now staring back in questions faded true

Within my heart my sorrowed path I pray takes me to you

Then what I see, reflecting here, within this polished sheen

I know will be the reason that it is myself I see

I love how well you know yourself...I know that may seem a downright silly thing to say, but it's not, I assure you. And I so love your romantic heart, you rotten bugger ;-)

I appreciate your comments sir.
i particularly liked the double entendre of the whole "reflections" nuance in this write...it alludes to so many different things we think when we look into the mirror in awe and wonder at this unfamiliar person we have become and to the memories of the time when a much younger, much happier reflection greeted us there within that silvery glass of betrayal and abject truth. that in itself is a contradiction and, as such, so difficult to digest at times. brilliant, jack, utterly brilliant!

Thank you so much sir.
grandparent status can cause a brief reflective reflection especially when we have questions-the what if's can take a toll
you have such a beautiful way with words sir truly
to spark so much feeling in the reader about the writer is an amazing gift-and you wrap it well
thank you for the reflective glimpse into you

Thank you for your kind words.
Changes come slowly but reflection literally and figuratively can be a difficult thing to comprehend and accept. We cannot change the past and that is such a hard lesson to learn. We do have a tendency to look over our shoulders rather than ahead- another great poem Jack.

Welcome always Mr. Jack you are the best!
A sad reflection, and lots of soul searching going on. Past happiness, present hesitation, perhaps love loss, 'the way we were', the way you were. Feelings of being incomplete refract off this read, it's a dark mood, yet one with hopeful intentions written in. Always a great work from you Jack.

I think many people hold such a harsh view of themselves. If they could only see what those that love them see - how much happier and more open many would be sooner, rather than later in life. reflections would be sweeter and (IMHO) more accurate and with less regret of past transgressions. We cannot change our pasts, but we can push past fears and try, fix, falter - and get up and do it again if need be. the only regrets we should have are the hopes and dreams we don't pursue due to our own lack of action. one life... live it. Just a thought... rambling.
A very well written poem with fluidity of thought and emotion.
