I Stare at Northbound Geese

I Stare at Northbound Geese

A Poem by Jack...
"

Imagination flies in the heart of dreamers

"

I stare at Northbound Geese

by jack

As branches of the sage outside my window move within the breeze

Across the skies methodically fly early clouds like northbound geese

What thoughts might cross the mind of clouds so high up in the morning air

The sights below may matter more to those whom find they are aware

Lessons taught on life are offered as the masses travel light

Fine tuning answers, questions plied to help withstand an oversight

Belief is hard to fathom in the words that flow without a course

And ramble down to endless minds reflecting on their wanting source

We see it is the geese as they return to places they were born

Instead of flights meandering along a proven path so worn

Should wasting time with endless flights be normal for this precious bird?

Are thoughts of a restful life within the floating clouds a bit absurd?

I often sit and think about these things as if I really cared

For everyday outside my office window two eyes sternly stared

Looking for whatever might have filtered through the misty haze

Providing indirection for my lasting out these weathered days

Come to me my mesmerizing flock of pretty little friends

And show the signs of everlasting life that constant time does mend

The lasting light of fireflies create their magic glistening glows

To take me to the people that are everyone that no one knows

Geese and clouds and all the wind, I’ve latched upon my open door

To lock inside the magic lines that lay below the shallow shore

So here we are a float at sea with nothing pending of our eyes

Except to stare at northbound geese which paint the future in our skies

Ah, the things with which we occupy our minds when we should be working ;-) How fitting is it, then, that I so often use the cafe to occupy my mind, while my work lies in an unopened document, cooling ;-) Thanks for the well crafted distraction.

Thanks so much for your kind words. Happy you enjoyed the dream with me.
The strict verse provides a wonderful backbeat of the geese` wingbeat. This contemplative muse is delightfully gentle and relaxed, with only a hint of the anxiety of the drift of life. Superb verse, Jack. Pete.

Very welcome, Jack
Magical as it draw the readers into somes questions about our future, what is next for tomorrow, it is all a mystery. After we spent so many years, the answer is always a puzzle if we ask about our future. Geez though represented here in your Poem but for my opinion the worries of getting old is the elements of this piece. Great write Mr. Jack I always love your classic works. I am a fan of yours.

Welcome always :)
I'd cut the second "the" in the first line. Nicely done, as always. I know there is a tighter way of stating that last line...

where are you?
i love geese as long as they're in flight, but when they land they begin immediately to poop everywhere and it is awful. and i have been attacked by a goose before in my own back yard. in this write you have perfectly described their beauty and grace in flight, so i'll not detract from that with further comment on how geese make me feel. your poem is gorgeous and does them much justice.

Thanks so much Holly. I appreciate it.
Geese for me are the harbingers of the seasons. My favorite of course being a northbound geese. Do you know that they don't leave a member behind, if one is flying slowly the whole group slows down maintaining that V formation. This is a beautiful piece Jack.
