This Wreath of Adversity

This Wreath of Adversity

A Poem by Jack...

Pain..is it real?

This Wreath of Adversity

by jack

This wreath of adversity

Gathered round my head

Looms o’er every ordinary

Ways found in its stead

Crept of covered vines

These walls of life engulfed

Strangled of the breath I breathe

Multitudes of growth

Mystery surrounds us

What may choose to be

Outcomes of another choice

Broken sanity

Destitute my heartbeat

Faint upon the wind

Searching long lost reasons

Of what shall be again

Pebbles cast a’ flat rock

Skipping o’er the shore

Ripples purge the distances

Bringing home once more

Built of sacrifices

Of which I’ve not performed

Paltry faces on the gale

Within this crusted storm

To feel the ever pelting

Piercing o’ my skin

Biting as the teeth it bares

Once more does begin

Pain is the reminder

Sorrow proves the loss

Tears shout I am worth it?

Loneliness the cost

I’ll kneel atop the pavement

Burning from the sun

Praying for forgiveness

Am I the only one?

This to be my prison

Chained the angry pole

For what does call my judgment

What doth this enroll?

Am I but a murderer?

Cast of mortal sin

Taken life so free to give

Washed it back again

Dare I ask a question?

Spend my worried time

Sending but a post card

With some fancy rhyme

For this I hang un-breathing

Tight about my neck

Honed of every watchmen’s noose

I did not expect

Not what hath presented

Crushed beneath the stone

Mountains built atop my chest

I plead, may I atone

Let me wash thy feet

Grovel at thy chair

End me of this anguish

Faces of despair

Maybe I am someone

Merely…but a man

One who loves you wholly

Shout me thy command

I do only love you

Take my stolen smile

Shower thy affection

Forgive me all the while

And if you truly love me

Then hear these words I speak

Somehow I do deserve it

This love that I do seek

Wow. Just wow.
Some poems make you silent, they make you think for long, others awe you, but rare are those which leave you speechless, for they take a bit of thought and awe and wrap it in strong, mighty yet graceful words and they present themselves to the reader, and they challenge them with all their essence to deny the beauty of the words and meanings conveyed, the sadness, which is enthralling in its subtlety yet undeniably there, the power, which hums from within the verses and through the reader. Ah! What a thing you have created good sir! You have my greatest respect and admiration. I look forward to reading more poems of this quality from you.

Thank you so much my friend. I am happy you enjoyed it.
YES...you do deserve it sweetheart :)

Such perspective in the space between, charcoal lines rubbed softly...what a phenomenal vision and voice you've unleashed into this..... each breath, tangled with the shadow of ache, and the closing verse captures the footprints of the heart's journey with such truism :)

Adversity is no stranger...It's just that it's easier dealt together with someone loved!

Welcome :)
This was different for you, filled with a lot of suffering and penance here, I thought at first it was about religion but I think it's the religion we have and follow in our heart/self love/loathing, that imprints our own barriers and keeps us from our own truth.

Yeah, I was a little off this day and had had a few bad turns in a row. Thank you so much Frieda
A great exploration in human suffering. Sometimes I think psychological pain is truly neurological, is what we think real Jack? So much of well-being is indeed subjective and based on perception, expectations and relationships with biological priming that we have inherted through evolution and are socially conditioned by our environments.

It is weird that there is so much effort in life and it doesn't always come to much...it was hard for me to fully read this poem and grasp each line in the repetition of the weight.

Such a spiritual heartfelt pleading felt to my bones. The aching need to realize forgiveness, accept self love in spite of our frailty and human condition, and see hope in the face of adversity. An extremely compelling poem. My heart aches knowing there are others that scream this same silent plea. You've given them a voice with a compelling wordsmith's touch. I can only surmise your person from what I've read of your work and from you here. If ever there was a man worthy of love, it is you, Jack. I hope your spirit continues to be lifted up!
