The Water Nymph's Dream

By Jack Ivey

Lake waters glisten,
a night so serene
The water nymph sleeps
in the throes of a dream

Upon a white steed,
the prince ever charming
Descends to the beach,
his footsteps alarming

The nymph steals a peek,
so handsome this creature
Hair golden blonde,
a square chin in feature

Down on one knee,
he sees her so slender
Warm to the touch,

ever so tender

She opens her eyes,
a smile does trace
The moon silver white,
aglow on her face

"Come precious nymph,"
he says with affection,
"Upon my white steed,
to ride that direction"

"My prince", now she cries
"My heart skips a beat
For chance on this evening,
that you I might meet"

"Alas, I must tell you,
as now ever near
For I can not leave,
from this water so clear"

"Fear not my young nymph,
precautions I take
The moat at my castle
as large as a lake"

"And there we will live
till our lives they are through
For you are my only
and I do love you"

When comes now a splash,
a bullfrog does croak
From soundly asleep,
the noise, she awoke

The water nymph sighs
"It was merely a dream,
that beautiful man,
that wonderful scene"

"How dare you old toad?"
Her voice it did shout
"Come kiss me young nymph
and you will find out"

Ha, I wasn't expecting that ending. Ribbit. So lovely Jack, but alas a fairy tale. There's always prince to rescue the fair maiden, who's going to re-invent this in real life, is what I want to know! Nice one, I enjoyed this one immensely.

Frieda, from what I see, you may just be the one writing the modern versions of this...smile.

Ha...you don't really want to go there, do you? ;-P
Remarkably beautiful, took me into a dreamy world. Oh if only a man on a white steed would come lol but as they say 'you have to kiss a lot of frogs before you meet your Prince Charming' :-) loved it!

True :-)
Thank you for this treat Jack! I loved the story and your melding the old tale of kissing a toad in with this. You showed the female and the male longing. This fun story was packed with truths.
Wonderful!

Thank you so much. I am happy you enjoyed it.
Not only is this beautifully romantic, it's interwoven with magnetic whispers of insight that linger in thoughts long after the verses have unfolded.....your brush strokes are always so delicately woven into shimmering poetry.......absolutely gorgeous from the first breaths through to the last......:)

Thanks, you are too kind. It was my feeble attempt at a rhyming fairytale.

You dont do feeble Jack.....your work is a mind caress...:)
A very good poem...I really enjoyed it. I wonder if the toad would turn into a prince if the nymph kissed him.

Las line of the first stanza: It's "throes" not "throws".
