Dare to explore

By Jack Ivey

Aimless I wander through mazes of mountains

Carving my face in the stone

Breaking a branch that remembers my answer

Asking my soul to atone

Dare to explore is a common endeavor

Washing the soot from my brow

Taking an opposite path of direction

Screaming the echoes a' howl

Standing to watch as the sun it is setting

Blinking the dust from my eyes

Running my fingers through reasons I've settled

Fearing the fountains that cry

Lost and alone with a bottle that's empty

Drinking my life's sorted song

Hanging around till the highway is open

I must be moving along

I love, love, love to explore, move to new places, and travel. Ugh... I have been sitting still for 5 years now and it is definitely unlike me to be in one place this long. The past little bit has kept me from exploring on short jaunts too. So frustrating, but all will turn around in due time. We can explore from the comfort of our homes, or in the thick of the jungle. It is our spirit and mind that makes the experience. Lovely writing, Jack. Of course, now I'm thinking of skiing, jumping out of planes, sailing, or repelling... oh, the list goes on and on! :)

I am happy you enjoyed it. Perhaps it allowed you to explore a little while sitting at your computer
Excellent write! I've always loved the thought of heading out in exploration. I took my first cross country road trip last summer and I was able to check off one of my life long desires from my bucket list. I often revel how great it would be to be alive in the mid 1800s and head off into the wild west of our country. Have you ever read any Washington Irving, he has a handful of writes on the subject.
