The Cello

By Jack Ivey

Here above the spider’s bed

Balanced on a tiny thread

Soft the sound his cello plays

In harmony with summer days

Melodically he moves his bow

In mystic motioned rhythm’d flow

O’ the cast of crescent moon

Illuminates his wondrous tune

A thousand dragonflies appear

His cello sound they long to hear

Now as he plays this mellow song

A cricket choir sings along

The audience in grand delight

Embrace the magic on this night

For as all earth has come to know

No sweeter sound than his cello

Love this. The cello has such an interesting sound, like nothing else yet not as different as we think at times.
I can picture the spider, playing, drawing in those who become memorized by the sound.

Thank you so much for your kind comments
I have, like many others, always seen the female form and beauty in the cello. You poem leads my mind to music, but also to the bedroom. The song of love and the perfect tone when two forms find the mastery of the music they were given to play...
I know, not everything is about sex, but this felt like musical sex and making love.
Then back to the man in the attic, playing his momories for the spiders, crickets and the dust bunnies. I loved this poem Jack. Just a thing of simple beauty!
