Sitting alone

Sitting alone

A Poem by Jack...
"

Oh what we won't do for love

"

Sitting alone

by Jack Ivey

Sitting alone at the

Top of the stair

Chin in my hands

And a blank empty stare

My mind seems to dance

Moving all on its own

While I do sit

On this step all alone

Rubbing the carpet

Now weathered and worn

Small little patches

My feet they have torn

Energy nervous

While here I do wait

Checking the hour

And seeing it’s late

Street lights they flicker

The shadows I see

There on the floor

As if reaching for me

Still I sit here

Every thought on the wind

Open the door

And please let them come in

Waiting the phone

On the table to ring

The sound of your voice

In my heart now to sing

All it is quiet

No noise do I hear

Tapping my fingers

I wish you were here

There is a space

On this step next to me

Won’t you come sit

And together we’ll be

Taking a breath

That is more like a sigh

Sending it forth

As I hear it blow by

Wondering what

Now will become of this

Here on this night

As your smile I do miss

Tear drops may form

But I won’t let them fall

I feel your love

Now in spite of it all

Here in my dreams

You’re invited to stay

Running the fields

In the sun we do play

Catching a leaf

As it falls to the ground

Two hearts that beat

Is a wonderful sound

Geese on the water

A wonderful scene

Now I would see

If you were here with me

Yet here I sit

At the top of the stair

Alone on a step

Wishing you were right there

Then all my dreams

Would forever come true

Sharing a step

Whispering I love you

Down at the bottom

Or up here above

Saving a step

Just to share your sweet love

Hi there sweet Sunshine...come on up and take a seat. :)
Your description of the abandoned beau reaches into my heart. I can plainly visualize the pursed lips, unfocused eyes, elbows on knees posture, and a seeming eternity of no breath at all, followed by a long shuddering sigh...I would appreciate your having a look-see at my titles: "Weather Girl" and "Stairs" for different takes on similar emotions.
I believe you may have meant "quiet" instead of "quite" in the eighth stanza.
