Hummingbirds

A love poem upon many tiny wings

 

Hummingbirds

 

A hummingbird in magic flight

Appears to you this summer night

Turquoise shades against the sky

A' shimmer as it flutters by

 

The nectar of its beauty sings

Through rapid dance of tiny wings

This random path of mystery

With brilliant balanced harmony

 

Gracefully it hovers there

In front of you atop the air

Hold out your arm and it will land

Upon the softness of your hand

 

For you see, this little friend

Is here for me, so I may send

All the love I have for you

To carry on its wings so true

 

Though too small, this bird you see

To carry all the love from me

I came up with a different course

I need to double up the source

 

So to the skies I sent out word

To find another hummingbird

It soon arrived without delay

To get its mission underway

 

I told it of the plan I laid

I should have known, needless to say

Still these two were way too small

This duo could not carry all

 

So I did what I had to do

To send out all my love to you

I pulled from here, I took from there

I gathered up from everywhere

 

I finally had enough support

So all my love I could export

That’s why you’ll witness on this night

A thousand hummingbirds in flight

 

For I have so much love for you

One little bird just wouldn’t do

It took the many birds above

In flight to bring you all my love

They are a delight to watch and there is beauty in their color and flight. I loved the whole concept of a thousand hummingbirds carrying love. Love is for sure to big an emotion for one little bird though they are quite hardy. Enjoyed the rhyme and the unmetered too.

I love Hummingbirds. Never seen one, but the idea that they have the fastest flapping of wings interest me. One reason I read this. I love the fact that yours is one of the most understandable poem in this site. Yet I know the meaning is much deeper. Thank you for writing a lovely piece.

i like using the hummingbirds to express love...and i think there should be a competition in poetry...hummingbirds vs. butterflies....the two favorite creatures used in writing love poems, i think..

hummingbirds' advantage...they can fly backwards.

This one is magical Jack, it felt as though it actually took flight off the page whilst I was reading it. Did you know that hummingbirds don't flap their wings up and down but rather in the infinity circle? Curious little birds, I mush enjoyed this capricious write.

Thank you so much my friend. I am fascinated by hummingbirds. I sometimes stand outside for hours with a clear bowl of nectar waiting for one to land and eat from my hand. It has not happened yet, but they are slowly getting used to me and I think it won't be long now.
