A land far to the south

A land far to the south

A Story by Jackal Town
"

Something very rough and is needing lots of work before its polished...its based (very vaguely) on some australian legends I have read. It's not finished but I think I'll return to it after other things have been finished

"

The land of the soutuh, what is now covered in ice was once the jungle place...the sweaty confinements in the trees, the insects, the diseases.  Home of the most magnificent and terrible of birds, the emperor penguin.

This was why they had come, to the deepest south through the demon seas where half the fleet had been lost, the canoes that handled so well in the fast streams of the homeland were crushed under the waves of the open sea.

A new emperor required a new penguin thus stated the law, without the bird to watch over his lands the emperor would be weak to his enemies and a fool of the small ones.

The Ngurunderi people were strong, stronger than all those who might wish to challenge them, they made rivers for crops and were able to fight off all the other tribes but always they must be vigilant for their strength was not enough, cunning must also be be used.  The Ngurenderi were few whilst the small ones were many, the small ones did not understand the Ngurenderi made the land strong and saw to it's spirit and its moods.  So the Ngurenderi needed an emperor, the wisest and most cunning of them and he would seek the council of that great predator of the skies, the Emperor Penguin.

In the Jungle the birds had made their home in a deep bowl of the mountains the party had been told, they must use all their skill in hiding from the giant birds or they would be taken from the ground and killed in the sky.  Then they must sneak to the top of the mountains and there they would find the nests of old where penguins had been born before the Ngurenderi had been dreams of their beast ancestors.  They must have no doubts about the penguins, they were vicious and clever creatures and they did not wish to leave their land of jungle.
