Where the Loon Sings

Where the Loon Sings

A Poem by Jace Loring
"

Where the loon calls for his lover, I'll be waiting patiently.

"

Meet me where the loon sings
Near the pond beyond the trees.
Where the loon calls for his lover,
I'll be waiting patiently.

Find me where the loon cries
Where dark waters dance with moon.
There I'll seek my solace
As I wait alone for you.

Touch me where the loon laughs
as she teaches her chick to fish.
In the shelter of tall pines,
Is where I will make my wish.

Love me when the loons leave
And silent evenings reign.
When placid pond floats golden leaves,
Fall air will sooth our flames.

Remember me when loons return,
and their song breaks moist Spring air.
Cleanse body in the cool clear pond,
For I will soon be there.

Jace Loring
If you have never heard a loon call, please listen to this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4ENNzjy8QjU The video doesn't cover the full range of their vocalizations, which include screeches, laughing, calling, quick bantering back and forth. It's amazing. In spring I can listen for hours to their romantic calls. The sound of the loon takes me back to my youth, and doomed summer romances on lake resorts.
