A Chapter by Jared

A man sits out in the waiting room of a hospital, holding his hands between his knees looking down at the floor. He’s got a blank stare and the people making commotion around him doesn’t seem to draw his attention. All he can do is sit there and think of how his and his little girl’s life has been messed up since Melinda, his wife, died from a stress related heart attack.

His daughter blamed herself after that happened, saying that she caused her mother to stress over her and eventually she started to believe she murdered her mother.  She started to cut her wrists once time she did and she cut so deep she had to go to the hospital by the time she was sustained she was stuck in what the doctors called the unknown coma. It’s a coma that people go in and very rarely come out of. She’s so deep in there that it’s hard to tell what is going on in her head. Jack snaps out of his day dream of memories when a man walks up and claps his hands to get Jacks attention. Jack looks up at him,

“Dr. Johansson, when did you get here?”

“A few minutes ago what are you doing here Jack?”

                “Just checking up on her.”

“Jack, nothing has changed, she’s still in a coma. To be honest Jack, I don’t think she’ll…”

“Do not say it! She is my daughter damn it. You and your big brained friends are going to find a way to wake her. I’ve been waiting for two years and I will not give up now. She will come back to me!”

“Okay, I apologize. I just hate seeing you like this, when’s the last time you went out or even slept in your own bed?”

“Why should I when she doesn’t get to?”

“Because you still need to live, Jack.”

A nurse calls over the intercom.

“Dr. Johansson to room 312 please!”

312 is the room Sarah is in.

The doctor and Jack run to Sarah’s room there is a loud beeping noise. The doctor runs into the room and says aloud,

“Her heart stopped, she isn’t breathing either. Get me the defibrillator, we have to hurry.”

He starts pressing against the center of her chest with his hands and breathing into her mouth. When they bring him the defibrillator he grabs the handles waits for them to say charge then says clear and places them on her chest. Her dad stands at the door way watching tears falling down his cheeks. Dr. Johansson continues shocking her.

He holds the pads up and yells,

                “Clear!”

And slams the pads onto her chest.

Her eyes open and she rises up with sweat rolling down her face.
