The scars remain under the surface

they do not break all the way through

but there are more effects to this injury 

it takes years to heal

and never completely 

the pain lasts longer

and is more visible

the scars slowly form from under the skin 

to your eyes

so lie, lie, lie little one

we all see the scars in your eyes

the words unspoken on your lips

the caress remains on your hand

the words locked in your ears

"worthless, weak, low"

we all see it, hear it, feel it

we can see the scars in your eyes
