nyc facadeA Poem by isabellamy first trip to my favorite city alone that shattered my perspectivethe city to set you free the city where you can be city full of light endless night strange faces new places full of wonder and lust blind trust loud subways never bothering to look both ways follow the crowds dont look down whispers of opportunity success and earned immunity its what you dont see at first glance you never stood a chance the glitter blinds you pulls you with a soft coo promises of happy days but it soon decays before you wake back up you found the bottom of the cup for a minute it feels good like they said it would then its all ripped away there is no home in this jungle to stay men with eager hands dreams of farther lands innocence lost was it worth this cost he took all that was left immeasurable theft simple business as the rest was this what you could have guessed a city built on lies and deceit you were not raised to cheat ripping sipping tipping no apologies and you feel yourself slipping the way it happens too fast in the city you wont last you see the people are cold inside you they plant their mold the thoughts of love are something to be wary of you see this is talk of a dreamer wisher and believer hope in this city leaves you an empty griever reality is money corruption and hate this is what we create throw them to the pack see how much will come back you are empty and tired and worn in this, through this, reborn you come out bleak but unafraid there are worse things to face than a blade the dark no longer scares you you didn't have a clue you went in a child young hopeful beguiled the bright things disguised as a cure simply used to quietly lure it will keep you up some nights nightmares with buildings of great heights the homeless the abused the broken lovers saw the same whimsical colors came to this city believing as i save me save me before i die © 2016 isabellaAuthor's Note
